With the extended Lunar New Year holidays and increasing concerns regarding the spread of the Covid-19 virus, throughput times at terminal operations and pick-up of inbound containers is seriously impacted at an increasing number of ports in China and beyond.
The international cargo shipping lanes are impacted and carriers have announced and are implementing their measures as a consequence to respond to these circumstances. Several blank sailings, skipping of ports and cancellations of vessels have already caused capacity constraints and we anticipate the situation will last through Q2 2020 and possibly even Q3 2020. Furthermore the availability of empty equipment (dry and reefer) is impacted on an international level and Peak Season Surcharges are announced and implemented.
The current situation is causing delays in already planned and booked shipments. At Meelunie we are committed to manage these delays within our capabilities and possibilities to minimize the effect of these circumstances towards all of our customers. We encourage you to communicate your shipping needs, place your orders, as early as possible in an attempt to minimize these delays. Although, we will do our utmost to fulfill our contract obligations, we cannot be held liable for any claims with reference of supply chain issues caused by or due to the Covid-19 virus.
Should you have any concerns or further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact your (logistical) account manager at Meelunie for assistance.
